Mystery in the air as lotto is claimed in Ballaghaderreen
By: Marian Harrison
Speculation is rife in Ballaghaderreen after a local man hit the midweek jackpot scooping a whooping €675,000. The localman, who has expressed a wish to remain anonymous, netted half the jackpot on Wednesday night last, January 19 after choosing the correct numbers. Only hours before the lotto numbers were picked out live on television the man, who lives on the Mayo side of Ballaghaderreen, bought the ticket in Newsround on Barrack Street. Treasa O’Connor, who has been running the store with her husband Cyril for the past 15 years, told the Western People that this was the stores first big win. “We’ve had three people on Winning Streak and a woman from town won €20,000 on a scratch card but this is our first jackpot win,” she enthused. The lucky winner contacted the newsagent to express his thanks but asked that his name be kept secret from the public. It is thought that he has not yet made the journey to Dublin to collect his winnings.
