Making waves with the Paul K Band

“A MASTERCLASS in musicianship and a powerhouse of live energy” is what the Paul K Band have been described by those who have seen and heard them.

This dynamic multi-national group formed in April 2009 and have gone from rehearsing in the studio to supporting Duke Special, Deacon Blue and Imelda May, in a matter of months.

Watching the Paul K Band at work is a joy as one is treated to a spectacle in virtuoso playing from fast rock and funk-influenced solos to smooth and silky vocals.

Frontman and keyboard player Paul Kirwan cut his teeth in many venues in Dublin and Kildare and The States. His style of singing is unforgettable, as is his songwriting, which touches your heart strings in one track and then has you dancing with another.

His companions, Raphael Dziubinski on drums and Marcin Gruszka, are both seasoned professionals from Poland, both having shared the stage with many major acts including Joe Cocker.

Raphael, a student of the Berklee School of Music, is a percussionist by trade and this lends itself to his unique style of drumming.

Marcin comes from a heavy rock background in Poland but hearing him play is like sitting in front of Victor Wooton a melodic joy to behold!

The Paul K Band are at their best playing live – connecting with the audience at a personal level and feeding off their energy.

“I love the reaction we get after our gigs,” says Paul. “I like the element of surprise we create when we change peoples preconceptions of what the band should sound like – we are, we feel, something completely different.”

The band have just launched their new website, www.thepaulkband. com and you can catch them on July 24 in The Valley House Bar, Achill; July 25 in Quattro, Ballina; and July 26 in The Quays, Galway.

With a debut album in the pipeline and some serious support slots on the way, the Paul K Band are worth keeping an eye on over the coming months.
