Stand beside me: Surprise guest!
BY KEITH BOURKE

International singing sensation Susan Boyle delighted audiences at the Daniel O’Donnell concert in Castlebar on Saturday night BRITAIN’S Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle wowed Castlebar crowds when she gave a surprise performance at a Daniel O’Donnell concert on Saturday night.

Ms Boyle emerged from the audience to perform with the Donegal maestro at his concert at the TF Royal Theatre. The Scottish singer received four standing ovations from the delighted and astonished crowd.

It later emerged that the multimillion selling artist, who was on a private visit to Knock Shrine, had actually contacted the Castlebar venue earlier in the week for tickets to the Daniel O’Donnell gig.

Management there suggested she might sing a song and she agreed. Ms Boyle sang Our Lady of Knock in a duet with O’Donnell and performed the song that that made her a phenomenon, I Dreamed A Dream.

Pat Jennings, owner of the TF Royal Theatre, said he had never witnessed such a crowd reaction. “It was incredible. The audience had two talents on stage who between them have sold more than 20 million records,” he said.

Mr Jennings said they would love to have Ms Boyle grace a Mayo stage again.

“We would be delighted if she would perform here again, but she doesn’t really do concerts. She’s turned down amazing offers from all over the world,” he said.

Ms Boyle shot to fame when she appeared on TV’s Britain’s Got Talent. Her memorable audition video has been viewed almost 350 million times online and her debut album sold nine million copies, making it the biggest selling album of last year.

She was in Mayo on a private visit to Knock and is a regular pilgrim to the Mayo shrine. In fact, one of the West Lothian native’s first ever public performances was at the shrine some years ago when she sang with her church choir.
